Book review in the New Mexico Genealogist

Two days after Christmas, I received an email from Jim Frost, editor of the New Mexico Genealogist, notifying me that his review of Crosses of Iron was published in the December issue of the New Mexico Genealogical Society’s quarterly journal.

I got to know Jim as a colleague during my time at the Albuquerque Journal. He also was kind enough to contribute the map that appears in the front of the book. Still, I wasn’t aware he planned to review the book until I received his post-Christmas email.

This isn’t the first time Dawson has been featured in the society’s publication. In its June 2022 issue, the journal devoted four stories and 32 pages to its “The Legacy of Dawson” cover package, including a listing of the 383 men killed in the 1913 and 1923 mine disasters.

So while I shouldn’t have been surprised, I want to publicly acknowledge and thank Jim for his interest in reviewing my book.
